Connect your Pattern Cloud storefront to your own Google Analytics 4 property or Google Tag Manager container.
In short: Use the GA4 Measurement ID field for a simple, direct Google Analytics connection. Use the GTM Container ID field if you manage Google Analytics and other tracking tags through Google Tag Manager.
Before you begin
What is Google Analytics?
Google Analytics helps studios understand how customers use their Pattern Cloud storefront.
Once a studio connects its Google Analytics account to TPC, it can see useful information such as how many people visit the storefront, where those visitors come from, which pages they view, what devices they use, and how visitors move around the site. This information is available in the studio’s own Google Analytics dashboard.
It can help studios make better day-to-day business and marketing decisions. For example, they can:
See whether Instagram posts, email campaigns, adverts, or other promotions are bringing people to their storefront.
Understand which pages or areas attract the most interest.
Learn more about their audience, including location and device trends.
Identify busy periods and measure whether marketing activity is increasing traffic.
Spot pages where customers may be leaving and look for opportunities to improve the experience.
What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager is a more flexible option for studios that want to manage Google Analytics alongside other marketing or advertising tools. TPC loads the studio’s Tag Manager container, while the studio controls which tracking tags it contains.
It is worth noting that Google Analytics is different from TPC’s built-in Activity Logs. Google Analytics provides broader website-traffic and marketing insights, while Activity Logs show specific customer actions inside TPC, such as logins, design views, PDFs created, and basket additions.
In simple terms: Google Analytics shows studios how their storefront is performing as a website, while TPC Activity Logs help them understand what individual customers are doing inside it. Together, they provide a much clearer view of customer interest and marketing performance.
How do I set up Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager?
Before you begin, you'll need:
Administrator access to your Pattern Cloud studio.
One of the following:
A Google Analytics 4 Measurement ID (starts with G-, e.g.
G-XXXXXXXXXX), orA Google Tag Manager Container ID (starts with GTM-, e.g.
GTM-XXXXXXX).
What's the difference?
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) tracks website traffic and visitor behaviour.
Google Tag Manager (GTM) lets you manage GA4 and other tracking tags from a single container.
Option 1: Connect Google Analytics 4 directly
Choose this option if you want a straightforward GA4 connection and do not manage GA4 through Google Tag Manager.
1. Find your GA4 Measurement ID
Open your Google Analytics account and select the property you want to use.
Open Admin, then select your website's Web data stream.
Copy the Measurement ID. It begins with
G-.
2. Add the ID to Pattern Cloud
Log in to your Pattern Cloud dashboard.
Go to Website > Storefront Theme.
Open Analytics & Tracking.
Paste your ID into GA4 Measurement ID.
Leave GTM Container ID empty.
Save your changes.
Pattern Cloud will load the standard GA4 tag on your customer-facing storefront pages.
Option 2: Connect Google Tag Manager
Choose this option if you already use GTM or want to manage GA4 and other tags from a Google Tag Manager container.
1. Find your GTM Container ID
Open your Google Tag Manager account and select the relevant container.
Copy the Container ID shown in the workspace. It begins with
GTM-.
2. Add the ID to Pattern Cloud
Log in to your Pattern Cloud dashboard.
Go to Website > Storefront Theme.
Open Analytics & Tracking.
Paste the ID into GTM Container ID.
Save your changes.
3. Configure and publish your tags in GTM
Adding the Container ID makes the GTM container available on the storefront, but it does not create or publish tags for you. Configure the required tags and triggers in Google Tag Manager, then submit and publish the container.
Important: If a GTM Container ID and a GA4 Measurement ID are both saved, Pattern Cloud loads GTM and does not load the standalone GA4 tag. If you use GTM, configure GA4 inside GTM.
Where tracking runs
The configured tracking script is loaded across the studio's customer-facing Pattern Cloud experience, including the storefront, login, registration, and password-reset pages.
Cookie consent
Pattern Cloud uses Google Consent Mode v2. Analytics and advertising storage default to denied. Consent is updated according to the visitor's choices in the storefront cookie banner.
If you use Google Tag Manager, make sure the tags inside your container are configured to respect the appropriate consent signals. Pattern Cloud loads your container, but the tags and triggers inside it remain under your control.
What information is sent?
When GA4 is connected directly, Pattern Cloud loads Google's standard GA4 configuration. The direct integration does not add custom Pattern Cloud events for actions such as design views, basket additions, purchases, or identifiable customer activity.
If you use GTM, the information sent depends on the tags and triggers you configure in your GTM container.
Google Analytics is separate from Pattern Cloud Activity Logs. Pattern Cloud's built-in Activity Logs can show identifiable customer actions such as logins, design views, PDFs created, and basket additions. Learn more in Know Your Customers Better: Activity Logs.
How to verify the connection
Save the ID in Pattern Cloud.
Open your customer-facing storefront in a private or incognito browser window.
Choose the appropriate analytics-cookie option in the cookie banner.
In Google Analytics, open the Realtime report; or use Google's Tag Assistant if you configured GTM.
Navigate around the storefront and confirm that the tag is detected.
It may take a short time for activity to appear in standard Google Analytics reports.
Troubleshooting
The ID is not accepted
GA4 IDs must begin with
G-.GTM IDs must begin with
GTM-.Do not paste an entire tracking script into Pattern Cloud—enter only the ID.
No activity appears
Confirm that the correct ID was saved.
Reload the storefront after changing an ID.
Check the visitor's analytics-cookie choice.
Disable ad blockers temporarily while testing.
If using GTM, confirm that the container has been published and that its tags, triggers, and consent settings are correct.
