This guide walks you through how to tag your designs and set up custom headings and tagging menus for both your admin panel and your customer-facing storefront. Watch the video walkthrough or follow the steps below:
Step 1: Access the Tags Configuration
Navigate to Configuration > Website and locate the Tags tab. This is where you manage all the tags used across your studio.
Step 2: Understanding How Tags Work
Tags affect two places simultaneously:
The tagging menu in your admin panel when uploading designs
The filter menu customers see on your shop page
It's important to keep your tags organised and relevant — good tagging makes it easier for both your team and your customers to find the right designs.
Step 3: Default Headings
There are three default headings that are always present: Section, Area, and Season. These cannot be removed, but you can edit the tags within them — adding or removing options to suit your studio's needs.
Step 4: Creating Custom Headings
Custom headings give you the flexibility to organise tags in a way that works specifically for your studio. They can be used for:
Admin use — for example, tagging by designer name in larger studios
Customer visibility — to give buyers more filtering options on your shop page
To create a custom heading, define a heading name that relates to either tagging or customer visibility — whatever is most relevant to your studio's workflow.
Step 5: Custom Heading Options
When setting up a custom heading, you can configure the following:
Visibility — decide whether the heading is for admin users only, or visible to customers on the storefront
Menu behaviour — choose whether the heading appears expanded or collapsed by default when customers browse your shop
Step 6: Example — Adding a Custom Heading
For example, you could create a Swimwear Edit heading. Once created, search for and add the relevant swim-related tags to that heading. This will then appear as a dedicated filter option for customers browsing your shop.
Step 7: Editing and Removing Tags
You can edit existing tags or remove them from a heading at any time. This keeps your tagging system up to date as your collection evolves.
⚠️ Note: once a custom heading has been created it cannot be deleted, only edited — so plan your heading names carefully before saving.
Step 8: Tagging Menu Visibility
Each custom heading can be set to be visible to admins only (useful for internal organisation) or to customers (useful for storefront filtering). This gives you full control over what your buyers see when browsing.
Step 9: Finalising Your Custom Headings
Once saved, your custom headings will appear in the shop for customers to use when filtering designs. They will also appear in the tagging menu when you or your team are uploading new designs.
Tagging Tips
When tagging individual designs, keep these best practices in mind:
You must select at least one tag from the Section heading for each design
We recommend keeping tags to around 10 per design — over-tagging can make it harder for customers to find what they're looking for
Only tag what genuinely describes the design — if a design is primarily floral with a small stripe detail, don't tag it as stripe
Use the Use Previous Tags button to quickly copy tags from your last upload
Use the Next and Previous buttons at the top of the uploads page to move between designs without losing your place
